Traveler's Guide to Mithras Forest
A downloadable game
The Traveler’s Guide to the forest of the Fey Queen is a ‘zine-size sourcebook (ish, they're actually starting to get bigger than 'zine-size these days) for 5e with new fey-themed sub-classes like the Paladin’s Oath of the Summer Court, devoted to the fiery passions of the summer fey, or the Oath of the Winter Court, devoted to the solemn endurance of the long night, or the Ranger’s Conclave of Fey Paths, allowing you to slip betwixt and between, using fairy roads to go from one place to another without touching mortal ground in between, or the Rogue’s Fetch sub-class, built especially for identity-stealing shapeshifters.
Like all installments in the Traveler’s Guide series, this one comes with a number of new backgrounds that give you something else to do with your hit dice, instead using them to cast spells, activate secret martial techniques, or permanently reduce them to unlock passive benefits like a new save proficiency. And no, reducing your hit dice in this way doesn’t reduce your hit points, only the hit dice you have to spend on other things. And you can instead choose to take an ordinary background from first party books and save all of your hit dice for healing. That’s kind of boring compared to the new backgrounds, but it’s perfectly balanced, so you can if you want to.
This guide also contains the first army of a dark lord. Similar to the army of Lumitas from the last book in the series, the Fey Queen’s army contains not only several new and returning stat blocks for the Fey Queen’s wood elves, werewolves, treants, and hags, including several action-oriented boss fights, it also includes for the first time the complete army of a dark lord, a full list of how many troops she has, how they are organized, and their tactical doctrine - how they fight wars, defend dungeons, and so on. As the dark lord of chaos, the Fey Queen’s tactical doctrine is more scattershot and disorganized than others, but her various forces still have a preferred way to fight.
And like all installments in the Traveler’s Guide series, this book contains an expansion of the Creative Commons Weskven setting. Mithras Forest, the titular Forest of the Fey Queen, is a new region in the high fantasy setting of Weskven suitable for use with D&D or any other elves-and-dragons dungeon crawly kind of game, and like every other region introduced in the Traveler’s Guide series going back to May of 2022, it is released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license, the same license the SRD 5.1 was released under. The Creative Commons content from the currently released books is linked here. The Creative Commons version is a boring .pdf with no illustrations and the version in the books is properly formatted and illustrated and stuff, but the content is available for anyone to use.
